Visa and Residence Permit

You need to get a Visa for Syria directly from the Syrian Embassy in your country. The longest period you can get is for 6 Months. Buying a Visa at the airport is not allowed!

Important!! Take a multi-entry Visa.. visiting the neighbouring countries is extremely easy and with a multi-entry Visa you avoid any possible trouble at the border!

When Should I plan to arrive?

You should plan to arrive to Damascus a week or more before the beginning of a term. You should apply for the visa at least four weeks before your departure date.

What should I do after I arrive to Damascus ?

Important! 15 days after your arrival, you have to register at the Immigration Office (Markas Al Heejra wa Al-Jawazat) in Baramke and get from there a tourist residence permit (Iqamah).

You will need to renew your tourist residence every two months. Permanent Visa for 6 months or more are extremely hard to get!!!

What do you need?

Required documents to obtain a tourist residence permit:

  • 3 pictures ( you can easily get the pictures from the shop next to the Office ).
  • 3 Residence application forms and a stamp ( 25 SP ) that you can get from Al-Marifa Net (6 shops on the right side of the Immigration Office). The application forms are written only in French/Arabic!!
  • 1 Residence permit request form that you get from the Immigration Office (25 SP).
  • a copy of your passport.
  • a letter from the university or , if you are taking private lesson, a letter from your landlord or any other document that confirms your place of residence.

Once you acquire all the required documents, you are ready to start your adventure in the Immigration Office . Go to the 2nd floor and be ready to queue!!!
